General description of the collection: The William and James Belote papers include historical research data collected by Professors William and James Belote for their book, CORREGIDOR: THE SAGE OF A FORTRESS. Most material concerns the defense of the island by the United States (U.S.) Army Forces -- Far East (USAFFE), 1941-1942; and a few items pertain to its recapture by the troops of the Southwest Pacific Area (SWPA) Theater in 1945. Almost all such sources gathered during the 1960s consist of summaries of interviews or correspondence with living allied participants in those operations.
